VISUAL ARTS COMPETITION FOR YOUNG ARTISTS |

Art Centre Salmela organises its 2nd Visual Arts competition for Young Artists in 2009–2010. The competition is meant for artists and art students born 1973 or later. Participants must be Finnish or live regularly in Finland. The competition is arranged every 4 years and it aims to promote new modern Finnish art. From among all the participants the competition jury will choose 10–15 artists for an exhibition class. The works of those artists will be put on display in Art Centre Salmela’s Domander area during 12 June–8 August 2010. From the exhibition class the jury will then select the winner who will be rewarded with a Nokia-prize of 5.000 € and a working scholarship. The winner is also invited to organise an exhibition at Salmela in 2011. Additionally, a MTV3-prize of 2.000 € will be awarded to one artist based on a public voting. Art Centre Salmela will also be inviting successful artist from among the participants to organise exhibitions at Salmela in the following summers 2011–2013 and they will be awarded with working scholarships to Salmela in the winter. The winners will be announced at Art Centre Salmela in Mäntyharju in July 2010. ENTERING THE COMPETITION Enter the competition by sending a registration form to the competition committee by October 30, 2009 at the latest. Competition material must be sent to Salmela by March 1, 2010. Competition material should include quality colour pictures or outputs of 7–12 artworks. Every picture should include the name of the artist as well as the natural size of the work (width x height X depth) and the technique. The artworks must be free, owned by the artist and no more than three years old. In addition to the picture material, the participant has to send a CV. Participant can, if so wishes, send max. 5 other appendices. Pictures and outputs must be one-sided only and the size A4. Documents and competition materials will not be returned. In first Visual Arts Competition 2006, first place went to painter Taru-Carita Pullinen, Minna Pöllänen took second place and Kaisaleena Halinen earned third place. OKO Art foundation’s special prize was given to Tomi Dufva.
Other artists in the exhibition class were Maria Hietalahti, Kaisa Kontio, Marikka Korhonen, Katriina Koskinen, Susanna Majuri, Nora Malinen, Olli Mantere, Janne Myllynen, Timo O. Nenonen, Mari Pihlajakoski, Jussi Pöyhönen, Matti Reivi, Anne Rossi, Emma Tryti and Charlotta Östlund. In 2006, the competition jury was comprised of painters Juhana Blomstedt and Tero Laaksonen as well as artist Maaria Wirkkala. |
